How to begin prepping?

Decide what you need

Prepping is short for “preparation.” Prepping can be for anything from a natural disaster to a global pandemic. It may sound a little bit intense, but prepping is simply being prepared for anything that may come your way. The first step in prepping is deciding what you need. Do you need food? Water? Medicine?

Make a list of what you need

Before you start shopping for a new coffee maker, it is helpful to make a list of the features that are most important to you. This will help you focus your search on the machines that are likely to meet your needs. Below are some factors that you may want to consider.

-Size: How much counter space do you have? How many people do you need to brew coffee for?
-Price: Coffee makers can range in price from around $30 to $800.
-Brewing time: How long do you want your coffee maker to take to brew a pot of coffee?
-Coffee type: Do you want to be able to brew regular or decaf coffee? Do you want a machine that makes single cups or full pots?
-Features: Some coffee makers come with built-in grinders, water filters, and other features.

Find out where you can get it

There are many ways to get the things you need. You can buy them, rent them, or borrow them. You can also find them for free.

If you need a ride somewhere, you can take the bus, drive yourself, or ask a friend for a ride.

You can also barter for what you need. For example, if you have extra eggs from your chicken coop, you could trade them for a jar of honey from your neighbor.

Get started

It can seem daunting to walk into a store and know where to start with prepping. There are so many products and pieces of equipment that it can be difficult to know where to begin. This guide will give you the essentials to get started with prepping, so that you can be on your way to being prepared for anything.

Choose a method

The best way to make coffee depends on your personal preferences and what type of coffee you’re making. For example, espresso or Turkish coffee require different brewing methods than drip coffee.

If you’re just getting started, we recommend trying a few different brewing methods to find the one that suits you best. When you’ve found your favorite, check out our guides to hone your skills and make the perfect cup of coffee every time.

Get supplies

You don’t need much to get started with roasting your own coffee beans. A good quality popcorn popper can do a great job, or you can invest in a small roasting machine designed specifically for the task. You’ll also need some green (unroasted) coffee beans. It’s best to start with a small quantity until you get the hang of things, then you can increase the amount as desired.

Learn the basics

Prepping is short for “preparation.” It’s the act of making sure you and your family are ready for anything that might come your way. That could be a natural disaster, economic collapse, pandemic, or anything else that would disrupt your life as you know it. There are many different ways to prep, but the goal is always the same: to be prepared for anything that might come your way.

Water

Water is the most important ingredient in coffee – it makes up 98% of your cup! The quality of your water will have a big impact on the taste of your coffee, so it’s worth taking the time to get it right.

The best water for coffee is clean and free from too many minerals or impurities. If your tap water is hard or has a lot of chlorine, it’s worth filtering

Food

A food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism’s cells in an effort to produce energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.

Different kinds of food include fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, meat and fish. Some foods are cooked prior to eating while others are eaten raw. There are also many processed foods available which have been altered from their natural state in some way. Often times these processed foods have added salt, sugar or fat which can make them unhealthy if consumed in large quantities.

Sanitation

Sanitation is critical in the coffee roasting process because coffee beans are a food product. Food borne illnesses can occur if coffee beans are not properly cleaned or roasted.

There are three key steps to proper sanitation:

  1. cleaning the roasting equipment,
  2. roasting the coffee beans, and
  3. storing the roasted coffee beans.
  4. Cleaning the Roasting Equipment
Roasting equipment must be cleaned after each use to prevent the build-up of coffee oils and residue. Oils and residue can provide a food source for bacteria, which can lead to food borne illness.
  5. Roasting the Coffee Beans
Roasting coffee beans kills bacteria that may be present on the bean surface. However, if roasting equipment is not properly cleaned, bacteria can be transferred from the equipment to the beans during roasting.
  6. Storing the Roasted Coffee Beans
Roasted coffee beans must be stored in a clean, dry place to prevent mold growth. Coffee beans that are stored in an airtight container will stay fresher longer than those that are stored in a open container

Expand your knowledge

There are many reasons why you may want to start prepping. Maybe you’ve seen the news and want to be prepared for anything that may come, or maybe you just want to be prepared for a natural disaster. Whatever your reason, it’s important to educate yourself on the basics of prepping. This will help you make sure that you are prepared for anything that may come your way.
Learn about different methods

There are many different ways to roast coffee beans, and each method has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. Below is a brief overview of some of the most popular roasting methods:

-Air roasting: Air roasting is one of the quickest and most even roasting methods available. The beans are roasted in a hot air chamber, which circulates hot air around the beans to evenly roast them. This method is often used by commercial roasters because it is very efficient.

-Drum roasting: Drum roasting is another popular commercial roasting method. The beans are roasted in a large rotating drum, which slowly turns the beans to ensure an even roast. This method can take longer than air roasting, but it produces a more consistent batch of coffee.

-Roasting on a bed of hot coals: This traditional roasting method involves placing the beans on a bed of hot coals and stirring them constantly to prevent burning. This method can produce a very intense flavor, but it is also very difficult to control the roast, so it is not often used by commercial roasters.

Find new uses for old supplies

One of the best ways to save money and reduce waste is to find new uses for old supplies. Whether it’s repurposing an empty coffee can into a beautiful planter or using an old t-shirt as a dust cloth, there are countless ways to give new life to items that you would normally throw away. Not only does this save you money, but it also reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

Here are a few creative ideas for repurposing common household items:

-Coffee cans can be used as planters, storage containers, or even bird feeders.
-Empty glass jars can be used as vases, spice containers, or to store small items.
-Old t-shirts can be used as dust cloths, rags, or even headbands.
-Shoe boxes make great storage containers for small items or crafts supplies.
-Cardboard boxes can be used as toy houses or turned into works of art.

Whatever you do, make sure to reuse responsibly and always recycle when you’re finished!

Stay motivated

It’s easy to get bogged down in the details and lose sight of the bigger picture when you’re first starting to prep. It’s important to stay motivated and keep your goals in mind. Here are some tips to help you stay motivated as you begin prepping for your future.

Set goals

It’s important to set yourself achievable goals that you can work towards. This could be anything from quitting smoking, to eating healthier or taking up a new hobby. Having something to focus on will help to keep you motivated. You may even want to set yourself a target date to aim for.

Find a community

When it comes to health and fitness, it’s important to find a supportive community to help you stay on track. There are many online communities dedicated to fitness and healthy living, and these can be a great resource for finding motivation and support.

If you’re looking for a more personal touch, consider finding a local fitness group or class to join. This can be a great way to meet new people and get some added motivation to stay fit and healthy.
