What Is The Rule Of 3 For Survival?

The first rule of survival is to survive the next 30 seconds, one minute, or the next few minutes. This is called the “rule of 1” because it tells you just how important time is in survival situations.

The second rule of survival is to spend those 30 seconds, one minute, or the next few minutes living life to the fullest. This means doing whatever you want to do- spending time with people that matter to you, going after what you want out of your life, etc.

The third and final rule of survival is to use all three of these times to focus on yourself and what needs to be done to get back to normal. This can include things like calling friends and family, looking up train routes, figuring out where you will go to look for help, and so on.

It is very hard to prioritize other people when you are worried about themselves, but trying to take care of others is an essential part of surviving a disaster. So, during such a crisis, you need to put their concerns ahead of yours.

You Can Only Survive for Three Minutes Without Air

We already talked about how important it is to know first aid in order to survive an emergency, but there’s one thing that most people forget – you can only do so much before your own air supply becomes limited.

Most adults have determined they are enough with their first aid knowledge to help themselves if hurt or sick. But what if someone around you isn’t as self-reliant?

What if they don’t know basic first aid methods like applying pressure bandages or knowing when to call 911?

This could jeopardize their very life because they wouldn’t know whether to try and help themselves or wait for outside assistance.

In fact, research shows that nearly half (46%) of all deaths from natural disasters occur due to lack of early action to help yourself, risk of death caused by waiting too long, or inability to access needed help.1

Thinking through the three rules of survival, Rule No. 1 reminds us that you can only survive for three minutes without air. This means that if you are not doing anything else, you must do at least one simple activity every minute to keep your lungs functioning.

Practicing these tips may mean saving your life:

* Read a book you’ve been wanting to read for years.
* Do some exercises you’ve been putting off.
* Take a good bath or shower.
* Do something that makes you feel relaxed.

You Can Only Survive Three Hours Without Shelter

We spend most of our time indoors, so we can easily forget that we need shelter to survive. However, this isn’t very practical when there are storms or earthquakes!

Shelter is one of the basic needs we have as human beings. Unfortunately, many people in developing countries don’t have access to it due to poverty or geographical limitations.

But even if you are living in a wealthy country like America, you still need to remember the rule of three!

Don’t worry, I’ll explain what the rule of three means for both short-term and long-term shelters. So, stay tuned and read on!

What is the Rule of Three?

The rule of three comes from an old Russian proverb which says “Give me water, and I will drink; give me food, and I will live; but give me neither too much water nor too much food, and I will soon die.”

It reminds us that just like with water or food, too much shelter can be disastrous. Obviously, someone who doesn’t have enough shelter may suffer from health issues caused by poor ventilation or excessive heat. Or maybe they get injured while trying to find adequate cover during a natural disaster.

However, someone who has enough shelter probably won’t suffer from serious health problems unless something happens to their current home.

What Else Do You Need to be Prepared?

Another important element in your survival stash is what we like to call “the rule of three.” This refers to having enough supplies to last you for at least three days.

Three days sounds like a lot, but it’s really not when you consider that a normal person needs eight hours of sleep every night!

So with this assumption, if you run out of one item before bedtime then you will get an extra day’s worth of sleep today. And we all know how much energy you can gather in a day!

This article will tell you about some items that are essential for surviving a disaster (or anything beyond buying food at the grocery store once a week). But first, let us review the most basic things you need to survive.

Most Important Rule of Survival

The most important rule of personal survival comes down to this: “Keep yourself alive” – source: Tools For Life Magazine

This sounds absurd, doesn’t it? But before we get into the reasons why it’s crucial to know how to survive by this rule, let us make sure you understand what we mean by surviving here and now.

We’re talking about living each day as if your life depended on it.

Living each day with purpose and engagement.

Live in the moment and focus only on what you are doing right now. Avoid thinking about past mistakes or worries about future failures.

More than anything else, strive to be happy and positive about your current situation.

Having these two things will help you maintain control over your own mental state. And while everyone’s situation may not be the same, feeling good about yourself and your surroundings can motivate you to do something meaningful with your time.

So what does all of this have to do with the rule of three? Absolutely nothing, but it makes an excellent segue!

The rule of three says that you should try keeping at least one part of yourself alive every week. You don’t need to do it every week, just once per month would be enough.

Why is this important? Because when you lose all parts of yourself, no matter how small they are, you start to die. That’s what the first part is- dying.

Observation Rule of Three

The observation rule of three comes from military science. This theory says that we should try to identify a person or situation as long as it’s longer than needed before making assumptions about them.

By this logic, people who stay in a relationship way beyond necessary are probably hiding something. Or maybe they just don’t love you enough to leave yet!

The observation rule of three can be applied to many things. For example, when meeting someone for the first time, you would try to talk to them for at least a minimum amount of time to make an assumption about what kind of person they are.

If they seem friendly and like their life is going well, chances are they are not looking to meet you tomorrow. 😉

Just because two people have been spending time together does not mean they will spend time together forever. Sometimes things just aren’t meant to last.

That being said, if you really care about each other then work on creating strong foundations so that you both know there is a safe place to land.

Water Purification Rule of Three

The water purification rule of three comes from an interesting theory about how people get thirsty. If you do not drink enough liquid, your body will try to make up for it by sensing that you have a lack of moisture in your mouth or skin.

Your body then turns its attention to getting more moisture through drinking liquids or bathing yourself in them. This can result in you being overly conscious of your thirst, which may make you drink more than what your body needs.

This overdrinking can be dangerous if you are trying to lose weight as eating too much can cause nutritional deficiencies and obesity. Unfortunately, most dry spells are made longer due to this rule!

Water rule of three: For every hour you go without drinking water, increase your intake by one cup. So, if you wake up at night because you were tired, sleep just a little bit less well adjusted and drink a glass of water before bedtime.
